Residents of Buckhead and Sandy Springs are on high alert after two recent coyote attacks on their pets, highlighting what many residents report is a growing problem.
Betsy Lurey said a coyote attacked her dog around midnight on Sunday, May 27. She let her 8 pound Yorkie mix, Lilly, outside of her residence on Jett Forest Trail and it ran toward the intruding coyote. The coyote snatched the dog, carrying it to some nearby woods. Lurey said she screamed and the coyote dropped her pet. She said it was the third time she spotted a coyote in the last six weeks.
“I found her wimpering, but alive,” Lurey said. “Never again will I let her out without a leash.”
The North Buckhead Civic Association reports that on May 16, Joyce Andrus, who lives on Wieuca Road, saw a coyote take one of her cats. The attack happened at noon, Andrus said.
