ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA, Reporter Newspapers broadcast partner) -Lillian Miles Lewis, the wife of U.S. Representative John Lewis, has passed away.

The representative’s communications director released news of Lillian Miles Lewis’ death Monday afternoon, saying that she had passed away in Atlanta earlier in the day.

No other information regarding her passing was provided.

John Lewis is a Democrat who represents Georgia’s 5th Congressional District, which covers Atlanta and several surrounding cities.

“On behalf of the people of the City of Atlanta, I extend my deepest condolences to the Lewis and Miles families on the passing of Lillian Miles Lewis,” said Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed in a statement. “Mrs. Lewis was active in social justice movements across the country and was an articulate ambassador on behalf of her adopted home city of Atlanta. She was a strong and steadfast supporter of her husband, whom she married in 1968 at Ebenezer Baptist Church. She will be missed.”

He and his wife have one son, John Miles, according to the congressman’s website.
