Interim DeKalb County Schools Superintendent Michael Thurmond and state Rep. Mike Jacobs will join the Brookhaven City Council to talk about education at 7 p.m. Feb. 26.
The meeting, held at PATH Academy, 3007 Hermance Drive, will follow with the City Council’s regularly scheduled 6 p.m. meeting.
Thurmond will give a brief presentation on the status of the new DeKalb school board. Jacobs, a Brookhaven Republican, will discuss local legislation, including a proposed bill that would allow cities to create new school systems. Question and answer sessions will follow.
In a press release, Brookhaven Mayor J. Max Davis said he invited Thurmond and Jacobs to address city leaders after hearing concerns from the community.
“We want to provide the best community for our residents and businesses, and that includes having a strong partnership with our local schools,” Davis said.
