The Atlanta Police Department is warning residents and visitors to be prepared for large crowds and traffic delays this weekend as high profile events are set to take place in and around Downtown Atlanta. There will also be bridge work on the Downtown Connector starting tonight, July 19, at 9 p.m. and continuing until Monday morning before rush hour with three lanes blocked headed northbound into the city. MARTA has also announced track work this weekend, which means single-tracking on the red and gold lines. Leave plenty of time for your journey.
Events happening this weekend include the BB&T Atlanta Open at Atlantic Station, CONCACAF Gold Cup soccer matches at the Georgia Dome, the “Justice for Trayvon” National Day of Action Vigil at the Russell Federal Building and a number of conventions taking place at the Georgia World Congress Center.
The Atlanta Police Department also reminds citizens about the APD’s “See Something, Say Something” campaign. Residents should report any suspicious persons or activity by calling 9-1-1, or alerting an officer. The APD is also asking motorists who drive into the city to adhere to its “Clean Car” campaign, and remove all valuable from vehicles prior to exiting.
