This morning (Aug. 1) at 4:35 a. m., Zone 6 units spotted an SUV parked adjacent to the Chop Shop Convenience Store at 809 Memorial Dr. S. E. The business was closed. The vehicle exited the parking lot after the driver saw the officers. Officers made a traffic stop on the vehicle and questioned the occupants, both black males identified as Sirdarion Morrison and Aaron Norwood. Both males were dressed in black clothing and provided conflicting information to the officers as to why they were there. The vehicle they were operating, a 1996 Chevy Blazer, was filled to the roof with beer, soda, and other consumables. The males were detained as another officer checked the business to verify there was forced entry to the business. The front door had been forcibly pried open and a pry bar was found in the suspect vehicle. A company representative responded to the scene and verified that the items in the vehicle were taken from the business. The males were arrested and charged with the burglary and transported to the Fulton County Jail.

On Wednesday, July 31, at 7:30 p. m., Officers Ryan Jones and Eric Lightkep saw a suspicious person walking in between cars in a parking lot across from 49 Boulevard. The officers approached the male and asked him what he was doing in the parking lot. The male advised the officers that he was looking out for juveniles who were breaking into cars. Feeling uneasy about the circumstance in which they encountered the male in the parking lot, the officers circled the block and came back to the same parking lot. As they pulled up to the lot they saw the same male. The male was now carrying a grey backpack and was leaving the parking lot. The suspect turned around, saw the officers and started to run north toward Edgewood Avenue. The officers then heard a citizen yelling from the apartments overhead in an attempt to alert them about the crime that he had just witnessed. The officers pursued the suspect and caught up with him on Edgewood where he was detained. The officers returned to the location of the crime and were able to locate the owner of a 2006 Black Dodge Charger. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the suspect punched out the lock to the trunk of the victim’s vehicle with a screwdriver. The suspect took the backpack out of the trunk of the victim’s car that he had just witnessed the victim put in the trunk upon arrival at the parking lot. Officers interviewed the witness who also provided a written statement. The victim’s backpack contained a MacBook, which was returned to him. The suspect, Michael Williams, was charged with entering an auto and transported to the Fulton County Jail.
