During its Aug. 13 meeting Brookhaven’s City Council will discuss an idea to allow residents to use golf carts to get around town and will also discuss rezoning the Century Center Office Complex.

A pending court case about the office park might delay any action by the council.

The golf carts idea, first proposed by Councilman Bates Mattison, will be discussed in the City Council’s work session before the meeting. He thinks golf carts may be a more realistic way for people to get around the city without cars.

The Century Center is currently tied up in litigation. The City of Chamblee filed a lawsuit and a judge issued a temporary restraining order, barring the city from taking any action to annex the disputed office complex until after an Aug. 14 court hearing. Century Center was supposed to be on an annexation referendum that will appear on the ballot this November, but the owners of the office complex applied to become part of the city of Brookhaven.

Brookhaven City Council deferred the rezoning vote at special called meeting held on July 22.

Century Center is on the agenda as a rezoning but it’s unclear whether the council will be able to take any action without first resolving legal questions about the annexation.

The work session begins at 4 p.m. and the City Council meeting begins at 7 p.m.  The meeting will be held at 2 Corporate Boulevard, Suite 125, Brookhaven, GA 30329.
