Local media and bloggers were invited for a tour and taste at the under construction Krog Street Market in Inman Park today. There was also an announcement that Chef Kevin Ouzts, who runs The Spotted Trotter in Kirkwood, would open a new restaurant, The Cockentrice, at the market.
Ouzts, who was on hand serving up samples of Spotted Trotter’s menu, said the new 60-seat restaurant will be a “charcuterie saloon” and feature a menu devoted to meat. Also on hand serving up a taste of their menus was Gu’s Bistro, GC BBQ and Pannus Bakery. If the samples on offer are any indication of the quality of food coming to Krog Street Market, then the development will be a hit.
The brisket and ribs served by GC Barbecue had a light, smoky taste with a sauce that provided a sharp kick. The meat was so tender it fell apart at the touch of a fork. The wide-cut mac ‘n cheese was sinfully good. I resisted the temptation to gobble up the entire contents of the Pannus table and went for a macaron instead, which was light and airy. Since Krog Street Market is literally around the corner from my apartment, I can safely gorge and walk the calories off on the BeltLine.
The former storage warehouse (and Tyler Perry Studios) at the corner of Krog and Lake Avenue is still under heavy construction, but the bones of what it will look like are definitely taking shape. Lily Heimburger with SRS Real Estate Partners said the building would be turned over to the individual restaurants and shops in November for build-out and an expected opening for the market in April or May of next year.
More restaurant announcements are expected over the next few weeks, Heimburger said.
