After more than 50,000 took part in last month’s Atlanta Streets Alive event on Peachtree, organizers are throwing attendees for a loop, literally, for the Oct. 6 edition.
From 2-6 p.m., portions of Highland Avenue, Boulevard, Monroe and Virginia Avenue (plus a small stretch of Elizabeth Street in Inman Park) will be closed to vehicular traffic creating a nearly 5-mile circle where people can walk, run, bike, skateboard and enjoy a myriad of events. The Atlanta BeltLine Eastside Trail bisects the route creating the perfect shortcut between neighborhoods.
Dancers, yoga masters, street hockey, four-square, hop-scotch, belly-dancing, bike polo, double-dutch, zumba, capoeira, and much more will be happening along the open streets. The Great Atlanta Halloween Bicycle Parade will begin at Sampson Street and Highland Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward at 2 p.m. (bikers should line up at 1:30 p.m.).
