The Savannah College of Art & Design will purchase the 14th Street Playhouse from the Woodruff Arts Center for $1.9 million. The announcement was made this morning by the Woodruff Arts Center, SCAD and the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta.

SCAD officials said the theater space at the corner of 14th and Juniper will be used to expand the school’s film and television degree programs.

The Woodruff announced that $1 million from the sale would go to The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, which will create a new fund serving performing arts organizations with a focus on theater and dance companies.
