The City of Atlanta has mobilized for full response to the snow and freezing rain predicted to arrive in Atlanta on Tuesday and Wednesday, according to update to local media. The city’s Joint Operations Center opened at 4 p.m. to coordinate storm response with the state and Fulton County.

In addition to private contractors, the city has a total of 65 spreaders and 60 snow plows ready for mobilization. With 3,000 tons of aggregate and salt mix on hand, the city will use spreaders to treat priority bridges and address emergencies as they arise. Beginning tonight at 6 p.m., crews will work 12-hour rotational shifts beginning this evening and continuing through Thursday as required.

In conjunction with completing priority routes, crews will canvass designated areas and respond to dispatched calls received from police and other emergency personnel, as well as reports from citizens.

The Mayor’s Office of Constituent Services and the Department of Parks and Recreation will open the Old Adamsville Recreation Center at 3304 Delmar Lane, SW from 8 p.m. on Monday until further notice to serve as a temporary warming shelter.
