The following incidents and arrests are some but not all of the reports filed with SSPD over the listed period, dated through March 14.
The following information was provided by the Sandy Springs Police Department from its records and is presumed to be accurate.
Robbery
8200 block of Dunwoody Place 30350 – On March 5, around 3:30 a.m., employees of a convenience store called in a robbery. A man wearing a grey sweatshirt, jeans and a black mask came in and pulled a gun, believed to be a Glock. He took an undisclosed amount of money and ran from the store toward the apartment complex next door. Detectives later arrested a man and charged him with the armed robbery. He is in the Fulton County Jail. The man has been busy, as he is credited with two additional robberies on the same day. He robbed and beat a cab driver near the same apartment complex and, earlier that evening, he and an accomplice robbed a pedestrian.
Burglary
900 block of Sandalwood Drive 30350 – On March 1, someone entered the victim’s residence and took a 37-inch TV. A back door had been forced open.
200 block of Berkley Run 30342 – On March 1, a man and woman said they awoke around 2:30 a.m. and discovered a man in their bedroom. The man fled out of the apartment through a back balcony, jumping two levels down. Unfortunately for him, his cellphone fell and was recovered by the victim and turned over to police.
2500 block of Harbor Pointe Parkway 30350 – On March 4, the victim said she was gone from the apartment since December. She said the apartment complex assumed she abandoned the apartment and began an eviction process. She said they have entered her garage area and changed the door knobs on her car.
8100 block of Colquitt Road 30350 – On March 5, the victim said someone entered the apartment (no forced entry) and took money orders amounting to $235.
5500 block of Glenridge Drive 30342 – On March 6 the victim was gone from the apartment during the day and upon returning home, found that several items were taken. No forced entry was found.
1400 block of Huntcliff Village Court 30350 – On March 8, the victim found his front door forced open and a Motorola computer connector for his Razr was missing.
700 block of Monterrey Parkway 30350 – On March 9, the victims said they found their apartment ransacked and a PS4, as well as $153 cash, was gone. They said they have not been able to lock their apartment from the outside in almost a week but haven’t had time to notify apartment management.
5600 block of Colton Drive 30342 – On March 10, the victim said someone forced a door and took a 46-inch TV from the living room.
5000 block of Winterthur Lane 30328 – On March 10, a rear door to the home was forced open. The victims said at the time they did not know if anything was missing; however it was evident the home had been rummaged through.
100 block of Dunwoody Springs Drive 30328 – On March 11, the victim said someone broke a glass window with a rock and entered her home. Several items including jewelry and a .38 pistol were taken.
Leighton Court 30328 – On March 11, a 53-year-old man reported that someone stole a MacBook Pro laptop from his kitchen area just after he used it. He suspects someone entered through an unlocked door. The victim’s wife discovered her wallet also was missing. He reported that they had seen a strange vehicle in their gated neighborhood not too long ago.
500 block of Forest Hills Drive 30342 – On March 12, someone used a ladder to access a sliding door to a vacant home. Two boxes of various items including crystal, a suitcase and end table, were taken.
5600 block of New Northside Drive 30328 – On March 12, a mailroom was compromised at a company mailbox. Several mailboxes were forced open and it’s assumed that some mail was stolen.
Theft
6800 block of Glenridge Drive 30342 – On March 2, around 1:52 a.m., a cabbie reported that he picked up two women in Atlanta and transported them to Glenridge Drive. One gave him a credit card for the $40 fare but then snatched it back and the pair fled.
6300 block of Powers Ferry Road 30342 – On March 2, a 2001 Dodge Neon was reported stolen.
7000 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 2, a 1999 Chevrolet Suburban was reported stolen. The victim said her ex has the vehicle and won’t return it.
5600 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30342 – On March 3, the victim said someone removed her wallet and makeup bag from her purse at her office.
6500 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 3, a rental center employee reported that a woman rented a TV valued at $898. The woman was later arrested and while in jail, her boyfriend pawned the TV.
1100 block of Perimeter Center Way 30328 – On March 3, an employee of a fast-food restaurant told officers that between Feb. 21 and March 3, someone stole her iPad from the location. She said one of her co-workers took the iPad, and when she reported it to management, they said there was nothing they could do because she wasn’t supposed to have it at work. The iPad tracking app showed it to be in Florida.
7200 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 4, a pawn shop employee said they were making a commercial for the business and upon completion, they noticed a watch that was on display was missing.
1100 block of Mount Vernon Highway 30328 – On March 5, a man reported that while working out at a gym, his locker, locked with a combination lock, was entered and $4,000 in cash was taken.
1000 block of Brentwood Way 30350 – On March 5, the victim said someone entered her apartment through a sliding door while she was gone between midnight and 1:45 a.m. She said a neighbor and his friend were previously in the apartment, unsupervised. Later, she found that several items were taken from her apartment.
7000 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On March 6, an employee said three boxes of items including iPads, Bose headsets and other items were stolen from a storage area.
6000 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 6, a woman reported renting $7,500 worth of camera gear to a customer, who was supposed to return the equipment on Feb. 18 but has not done so, nor does he answer or return phone messages. A private investigator found him in Smyrna. The investigator was told that the man was making plans to move to New York this week.
7200 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On March 6, Publix employees reported that an electric shopping cart was stolen. They reviewed the videotape showing that an older woman drove it out of the store on March 4 around 9 a.m. She was seen driving it out the door, making a left, and then going out of view.
6500 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 8, a woman reported that she was fired from a restaurant after being accused of stealing from the register. She told officers they pay her “under the table,” and refused to give her final pay because of the theft. She said the business has video but refused to show it. The manager said they would pay her, but she needed to fill out a form. They accused her of stealing $150 from the register on March 7. The manager allowed the officer to look at the video. The officer said that although it was not conclusive, the video showed some suspicious movement by the accused near the register after a transaction.
5700 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 9, a staff member of a restaurant reported two men walked out on a tab totaling $134. They had referred to themselves earlier as “Unc, Big Bro and Little Bro.”
5200 block of Treelodge Parkway 30350 – On March 10, a 24-year-old woman reported that while she was gone, from March 3 until March 10, someone took $1,100 from her hiding place in her Bible on the bookshelf in her bedroom. In addition, her roommate said she had pushed $160 cash under her bedroom door for her part of the rent money. This was on March 4 or 5. They said they let a friend use the apartment for a week or so and that friend has a key. That person said she had no knowledge of the thefts.
6600 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 10, a man reported that he was playing basketball at a gym around 8 p.m. He left his wallet in his friend’s gym bag and when he finished, discovered someone had taken the wallet.
700 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On March 10, a man reported that someone stole a red money bag with several thousand dollars in it from his hotel room at the Hampton Inn. The man said he believes housekeeping staff members took the money although he left a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the door. The hotel staff said housekeeping staff does not work in the evening hours.
1st block of Abernathy Road 30328 – On March 11, some construction equipment was reported stolen from the new Abernathy Greenway Linear Park. A construction employee reported that a load of tongue and groove lumber had been stolen.

Fraud
A woman reported that she is supposed to receive regular Social Security checks and at some point they stopped coming. She contacted the administration and found that someone contacted them and changed the mailing address to a West Palm Beach, Fla., address.
A man reported that between September and October, someone has cloned her debit card and produced counterfeit checks on her account.
A man reported that his brother has been using his name in regard to a traffic citation in GA that was not paid, resulting in a failure to appear warrant and suspended license
A man reported that his housekeeper has written checks in the name of his wife. He noticed money missing from two bank accounts.
A woman reported that someone used her Social Security number to file taxes in her name.
700 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On March 6, a man reported he received an email from a “Grover Dennis” on becoming a mystery shopper. They sent him a cashier’s check from Brandon, Fla., for $1,760. The check was fraudulent.
The report doesn’t say he was asked to forward the bulk of that money to another person, but that’s the hook on this scam. The report did say that the bank had to close his account, so I’m guessing he forwarded some funds.
6600 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 10, an employee of Fidelity Credit Union reported that a member came in and cashed three checks that had previously been cashed at another location. The checks were for $25, $861 and $672. The man was contacted, and he said would come in and pay for the check amounts. He never showed. They re-contacted him and found that his cellphone was disconnected.
A man reported that his information was used by a woman to file a tax return and receive a refund.
300 block of Jefferson Drive 30350 – On March 10, a 30-year-old woman said she was contacted at her office by a man with a British accent who said he was from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, and was informing her that she would be deported if she did not pay $6,350 immediately. Furthermore, agents were on the way, but she could avoid arrest by paying the funds quickly. She went to Kroger and purchased a Green Dot debit card gave the account number to the caller. It was later she became suspicious and called immigration and was told that they do not discuss immigration issues on the phone. They would have contacted her to meet in person.
A 40-year-old woman reported that someone used her ID information to open a Verizon account in Union City, Ga. The victim was contacted by a collections company and learned that $1,120 was owed on the account.
A 21-year-old woman reported that her ex-boyfriend fraudulently deposited fake checks into her Delta Community Credit Union account and then immediately withdrew funds before the fraud could be detected. He withdrew $1,700 between Feb. 20 and Feb.26. He is nowhere to be found.
A 79-year-old man contacted police and said he was called by someone claiming to be his grandson. The “grandson” said he had been in a wreck and the other driver fled the scene. He said he needed the victim to call his friend’s son who was a lawyer. He called the number and was told by “Mr. Murphy” to get four Green Dot cards for $500 each and then call him back. He called back and was told to scratch off the numbers on the back of the cards and read them off to him. He would then “make things go away.” Mr. Murphy called back later wanting $1,500 more, but the victim said he didn’t have it. Later, he discovered his real grandson was not in trouble and had not been in a car accident.
Assault
200 block of Franklin Road 30342 – On March 3, a call of a person stabbed was received around 7:30 p.m. The victim was stabbed in the chest and hand with non-life threatening cuts. The suspect information was that of a man with a mask and in blue jeans. The victim’s girlfriend said he may have inflicted the wounds himself. The victim was wanted in Cherokee County. He was taken to the hospital, and Cherokee County was asked to take custody of him. The story, although suspicious, is being investigated.
5900 block of Roswell Road 30328 – On March 5, a store manager said he saw two frequent shoplifters outside his store, and as he approached them, one pulled a knife and told him “I’m not going back to jail.” The man and a woman accomplice then fled across the street. The pair had not actually taken anything at that time.
A 56-year-old man on River Run Drive reported that he met with his ex-wife over his concerns on how she corrects their child. During the discussion-turned-argument, she bit him on the wrist. He told the cops she smelled like alcohol.
Arrests
8600 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On March 1, cops were called to a sports barr around 1:20 a.m. regarding a theft. A woman said she was dancing with her friend when she saw a man take her purse from her table and then flee out the door. She gave chase, causing the man to discard the purse under parked cars. He was located in the parking lot and detained. Later, video confirmed the victim’s story and the man was arrested for theft. He told the officers they were racist because they arrested him—not bothering to respond to the video evidence they produced. He was taken to jail.
8700 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On March 2, security officers at a grocery detained a woman for stealing $10.68 in Capri XL leggings. She was later charged on a citation and released pending a court date.
An officer made a traffic stop on Highland Park Trail on March 3 at about 4:30 p.m. The registration information showed the car’s tag to be stolen from Gwinnett County. The driver was arrested for theft by receiving.
6400 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On March 4, two persons were arrested at a home improvement store after shoplifting $168 worth of items and then fraudulently returning them for a cash refund.
300 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On March 4, following a burglary-in-progress call around 9 p.m., officers cornered a man with all the tools for a good burglary. The man had a backpack with a drill, a computer monitor, and other tools probably taken from the residence. The window was broken and appeared to be an entry and or exit point. The suspect had a star-key tool, pliers and a headband flashlight. The suspect was later taken to Fulton Jail.
5500 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 5, loss prevention staff at a discount store said they observed a person who was younger than 21 as he removed two bottles of wine, slipped them down his pants and tried to leave the store. He was stopped and detained. He was later taken to jail.
200 block of Hammond Drive 30328 – On March 5, officers received a theft-in-progress call regarding a man who had taken a metal table and chairs from a patio. Officers found a man walking down Hammond with a metal table and chairs. The cops stopped and talked to the man who said he bought them, but had no receipt. He later admitted he stole them. He was arrested.
5300 block of Northside Drive 30342 – On March 5, cops arrested a 23-year-old woman who was found sleeping in a bedroom, inside the home that singer Justin Bieber is renting. The woman told the homeowner that she found an unlocked door and came in to be a part of the singer’s birthday party—which was held elsewhere a week earlier. She said she realized she was late for the party so she would hang around until he returned home. She originally said she knew Bieber; however it turned out that she was one of his Twitter followers. She was arrested for criminal trespass. Neither Bieber nor any of his associates were home at the time.
6200 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road — An officer said he saw an occupied car sitting in the parking lot of a hotel. The officer checked it out and reported a cloud of marijuana smoke emitted from the car when the window was opened. A small bag of marijuana was located and the persons were issued citations for minor possession.
1st block of Concourse Parkway 30328 – On March 8, members of a hotel staff became suspicious when two people came in to reserve three rooms for a week using a credit card that was repeatedly rejected. Hotel staff said this is a common tactic to gain admittance to the hotel and then leave without paying the balance, which can be in the thousands. The man resembled a photo of a man who did the same thing last year. Cops checked, and found the woman was wanted in Gwinnett County (charge was not listed) and while in custody, officers found needles and other drug items in her purse. She was arrested on disorderly conduct. The man was told to hit the road.
8000 block of Roswell Road — Officers arrested one person for disorderly conduct after a fight at a bowling alley on March 8. Officers learned that an argument ensued after one person accused another of placing his drink on the wrong table.
8700 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On March 9, store staff detained a woman for shoplifting after she paid for some but not all of the items she had on her. Thirty-three dollars in grocery goods was recovered, and the woman was arrested.
6200 block of Peachtree Dunwoody Road 30328 – On March 11, cops were called to an argument in the parking lot of a hotel. They found a couple involved in a domestic argument, and subsequently discovered that the man struck the woman in the face. He was arrested and taken to jail.
8700 block of Roswell Road 30350 – On March 12, a woman was detained after being caught shoplifting a bottle of Nair body lotion, valued at $10. She was issued a citation and a court date as well as given a criminal trespass warning not to return to the grocery store.
5600 block of Roswell Road 30342 – On March 13, cops received a theft call from a discount store. A man stole an Xbox One controller and was now next door at a game store attempting to sell it. The officers found the man inside the store holding the item in question. The game store employees, who had been tipped off by the discount store employees, were stalling the suspect to allow time for the cops to get there. The suspect was arrested and taken to Alpharetta Jail.
Other Things
An officer located a 66-year-old woman sitting in her car behind a business around 8 p.m. on March 8. As he talked to her, he noticed she wasn’t wearing shoes or pants. She said she had had an argument with a family member and was upset. She appeared disoriented and then attempted to flee into the woods. She was later taken to the hospital for evaluation. Alcohol was involved.
5600 block of Kingsport Drive — On March 10, a woman reported that dog poop, contained in a plastic bag, was hanging on her front door knob. An investigation was launched and officers spoke with a 68-year-old man who admitted hanging the bag and told cops that he did so because the woman lets her dog poop on her balcony and then sweeps it off, which allows part of the poop to land on his balcony. The woman admitted her dog poops on the balcony but hasn’t lately. The officer explained that in his opinion, if she discontinues letting her dog poop on the balcony, the problem should resolve itself soon.
2100 block of Riveredge Parkway 30328 – On March 12, a 26-year-old man reported that around 11:30 a.m. he entered a public bathroom and was using a urinal next to a toilet stall. He looked down and noticed an iPhone on the ground between his urinal and the stall. He discovered that it was recording him. He complained, at which time the person in the stall reached out and grabbed the phone. The person said nothing and fled the bathroom. A security person said he noticed a man in the stairwell about that time.
