Members of the Atlanta City Council and Atlanta Public Schools met Tuesday morning to begin discussions on how they’ll resolve a $19 million dispute in their joint agreement to help fund the Atlanta Beltline, according to a report from our media affiliate CBS46.

“We want to work together,” said City Council President Ceasar Mitchell. “The citizens do not expect us to be in conflict over issues as important as this.”

The city and school system entered into a joint agreement in 2005 to jointly fund development of the Atlanta Beltline. However, school leaders say the city has not lived up to its end of the bargain by sending money back to the school system.

An intriguing solution brought up by APS: turning over the Atlanta Civic Center, which is up for sale, for a new school.
