Decatur diversity

The City of Decatur presented findings from its recently completed Diversity Project at the  Aug. 4 City Commission work session. You can check out those findings in a PDF available here. The full written report is being finalized and will be available later this month. You can also watch the taped session here. Christian Perry, a master’s candidate in public studies at Georgia State University and Decatur High School graduate worked on the project. Of note:  the city’s white population increased overall from 1990 to 2010, while the black population declined from 40 to 20 percent during the same time period. The number of same sex households in Decatur  is four times the national average. In 2010, 3.5 percent of the city’s households were same sex, compared with less than one percent nationally.
