Atlanta’s unemployment rate rose from 7.5 percent in June to 8 percent in July, according to new statistics released by the Georgia Department of Labor. Georgia’s rate sits at 7.5 percent, but both the state and local are higher than the national, which sits at 6.2 percent.
A woman having trouble parallel parking outside Atlanta Municipal Court in Downtown on Wednesday had her car stolen by a supposed good samaritan, according to our media affiliate CBS46. The woman asked a man for help trying to park, but instead he jumped in her car drove off. Apparently, the carjacker didn’t notice that the woman’s sister was also in the car. After a nearly three mile drive, the man parked the car in the 1000 block of Palmetto Avenue, took the woman’s purse and fled. And just because the woman’s day hadn’t been bad enough, after she recovered the car and went back to the courthouse, she got a parking ticket for an expired meter.
Invest Atlanta has announced its Housing Finance Division has been selected as one of five in the nation to offer Fannie Mae’s flagship affordable housing program, Housing Finance Agencies (HFA) Preferred.
