If you happen to be in Decatur, drop by the Brick Store Pub not only for a beer and burger, but be sure to check out the walls. There you will find artful skateboards that will be auctioned as part of SkaterAid, an event that raises money for the Brain Tumor Foundation. Specifically, the money goes to the Children’s Butterfly Fund, which helps families pay bills while they are caring for a sick child.

Bidding for the colorful boards takes place online through Sept. 27 at 5 p.m. If you miss that deadline, you can bid during the actual auction during SkaterAid on Sept. 28 from 2-7 p.m. The event will be held at 109 New Street in Decatur and will feature skateboarding, activities, food and music from Scofflaw, Rough Drafts, Forje and Missing Cat. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for students.

SkaterAid was started in 2005 to celebrate the life of Ian Wochatz, a Decatur teen and avid skateboarder diagnosed with an especially virulent type of brain cancer. He died on July 2005 at the age of 15.
