The Atlanta Streetcars will be back on the tracks tonight, Oct. 13, and on Wednesday, Oct. 15, as system testing continues. According to a media release, these tests will ensure the integration of vehicles, power, communications, and traffic and train signal controls.
Tonight’s test will have two streetcars coupled together to test the towing ability of the cars. Most of this testing will take place along Edgewood Avenue and Fort Street.
The test will begin at 11 p.m. and go until the early morning hours of Tuesday, Oct. 14. The Atlanta Police Department will be escorting the streetcar and rolling closures may be necessary. Traffic along Edgewood Avenue and Fort Street may be delayed; motorists are advised to find alternate routes while the testing is taking place.
The Wednesday test will look at the traffic signal interface system. The test will begin at 11 p.m. and go until the early morning hours of Thursday, Oct. 16. Streetcars will be travelling along the entire 2.7 mile loop of the system. The Atlanta Police Department will again be escorting the vehicle and there will be rolling closures. Motorists are advised to find alternate routes while the testing is taking place.
Drivers are also reminded that vehicles along the streetcar route need to be parked fully within the white lines of the parking spaces, and that double-parking is not allowed. Illegally parked vehicles along the route will be ticketed and/or towed.
