Decatur’s Lifelong Community Advisory Board invites the community to complete a survey to help plan the direction for Decatur’s future as a place where people of all ages and resources can live throughout their lifetimes. The board welcomes the community’s input to reach these goals. All Decatur residents, not only senior citizens, may complete the survey at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/lifelongdecatur. If you prefer to complete a hard copy of the survey or would like more information, contact staff liaison Lee Ann Harvey at leeann.harvey@decaturga.com or call (678) 553-6548. The deadline to complete the survey is Nov. 21.

Interactive historic markers are being installed at several sites around the city over the next few days. This morning, Nov. 1, markers recognizing the members of the Atlanta Student Movement and An Appeal for Human Rights were unveiled at at the corner of James P. Brawley Drive and Atlanta Student Movement Boulevard. The Atlanta Student Movement was formed between February and March 1960 in Atlanta by students of the campuses of the Atlanta University Center (AUC) and led by the Committee for the Appeal for Human Rights and was part of the African-American Civil Rights Movement. On Nov. 3, at 10 a.m., a marker will be unveiled in honor of Atlanta Police Officers Richard Halford and Shawn Smiley, who died in an APD helicopter crash two years ago. The marker is near the intersection of H.E. Holmes and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

Don’t forget to set your clocks back one hour on Sunday morning, Nov. 2. Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. EST. Yes, it will be getting dark earlier, but think of that psychological extra hour of sleep you’ll get. It’s also a good time to change the batteries in your smoke detectors.
