WABE 90.1 FM will get a big programming shake-up starting on Jan. 12. According to a report in Creative Loafing. the change will launch 25 hours of weekly news and talk programming. Current Morning Edition host Steve Goss will be on the air for another hour. From 10 a.m. to noon, longtime Second Cup Concert host Lois Reitzes will launch her new arts and culture show. All Things Considered Host Denis O’Hayer and Producer Rose Scott plan to take over a two-hour slot starting at noon that will feature a “newsmagazine” program.  Classical music programming — including Second Cup Concert, City Café, and Performance Today — will move from the main frequency to the station’s digital “WABE: Classics.” Reitzes talks about the upcoming changes in a video posted on WABE’s website at this link.

The Georgia Baptist Convention wants Mayor Kasim Reed to reinstate, and apologize to, Atlanta Fire Chief Kelvin Cochran. According to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, Reed suspended Cochran for one month without pay after the fire chief published a book that says homosexuality and having multiple sexual partners is “vile,” “vulgar”, and “inappropriate.” Reed said in a statement released in November after he learned of the book, “I profoundly disagree with and am deeply disturbed by the sentiments expressed in the paperback regarding the LGBT community. I will not tolerate discrimination of any kind within my administration.”

The Atlanta Office of Revenue announced today that businesses will have until Feb. 15, 2015 to file their business license renewal application. Once a renewal application is filed, businesses will have until April 1, 2015 to pay the invoiced amount. Businesses are encouraged to renew their license, using their PIN, online at this link.
