Poncey-Highland’s historic watering hole, Manuel’s Tavern, is being sold and will be incorporated into a mixed-use development, according to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

Green Street Properties will refurbish the 100-year old building at the corner of N. Highland and North avenues, but the Maloof family, which has operated the tavern since namesake Manuel Maloof opened it nearly 60 years ago, will still run the bar and restaurant.

The Maloof family is selling nearly 1.6 acres of property on the corner, which includes the Tavern building. The Poncey-Highland neighborhood master plan allows for a four-story building in that location. Green Street indicated that the existing parking on the site would be incorporated into the development and there would be retail and a residential component.

Construction could begin in the first quarter of 2016 if the city approves zoning changes. The sale of the building is contingent on the rezoning approval, according to the report.
