The historic Trolley Barn on Edgewood Avenue in Inman Park might soon be up for sale. According to a report in the AJC, the Atlanta City Council will take up the issue at its March 2 meeting.

The 126-year-old structure, which was built as a maintenance facility for Atlanta’s original streetcars, would be turned over to Invest Atlanta to find a buyer. The Trolley Barn is currently used as an event space for weddings and parties, and is leased to nonprofit Atlanta and Edgewood Street Railway Company.  The nonprofit has indicated it wants to buy the property and is raising money to do so.

Since the Trolley Barn sits in a historic district it would prevent the structure from being demolished or dramatically altered after the sale.

The city recently divested itself of Underground Atlanta and is looking for a buyer for the Civic Center.
