Freedom Barkway, an off-leash dog park, will be created on two-acres of state-owned property that stretches along Freedom Parkway at Boulevard in the Old Fourth Ward. There will be entrances from Boulevard and, appropriately enough, Howl Street off Highland Avenue.
The community organization behind the dog park has been fundraising via Kickstarter and got a big cash boost on March 2, when Dist. 2 Atlanta City Councilmember Kwanza Hall’s ordinance to approve $10,000 for the project was green lighted by the council.
The park, which will be divided into two spaces for large and small dogs, is set to open later this month. Additional money is being raised for seating, splash pads and other amenities in the dog park.
