President Barack Obama made a surprise stop at Manuel’s Tavern in Poncey-Highland after his speech at Georgia Tech, where he introduced a new “student aid bill of rights” to help in the payback of student loans. While at Manuel’s, Obama was interviewed for the HBO news series Vice, spoke with the owners and even threw some darts, as captured in the photo by White House Photographer Pete Souza.

The Wells Fargo Bank at 2349 Cheshire Bridge Road was robbed yesterday, March 10, according to a report from the Atlanta Police Department.  A black male walked up to a teller and stated he wanted to make a withdrawal. The male then placed note underneath the glass which read, “I have gun give me $100.50 NOW.” The suspect is described as 5’10-6’2, heavyset, 40-50, dark skin, thick mustache, bubble type black jacket, bulk jeans. The teller gave him $150 and the suspect walked out the bank. Anyone who knows the identity of this individual is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-8477.

The retail core of Atlantic Station could soon be for sale, according to a report from the AJC.  North American Properties and CBRE Global Investors, which acquired much of the Midtown mixed-use complex during the aftershock of the recession, have made inquiries to brokers about listing the retail town center following a successful turnaround effort.
