
A woman who was shot and killed by police in Downtown on Thursday after she opened fire on officers while in the back of a patrol car has been identified as Alexia Christian, 25.
Here is the report released by APD concerning the incident:
At approximately 4:28pm on April 30, two Officers were dispatched to 111 Martin Luther King Jr Dr. at the request of the Fulton County Police Department. The Officers were asked to check the area for a stolen Ford F150 pickup truck, white in color, which was believed to be in the area.
The vehicle had been reported stolen from 4336 Fulton Industrial Parkway and had been tracked to the area by the driver. Officers arrived at approximately 4:41pm and began to search the area. At approximately 4:50pm Officers advised Dispatch that they had located a vehicle matching the description of the stolen truck in the parking deck.
During the course of the investigation a female, later identified as Alexia Christian, was observed in the vehicle and taken into custody. The female was handcuffed and placed in the rear of the patrol vehicle.
A short time later, the female produced a handgun and fired three shots at the officers while they were sitting in the front seats of the patrol car. The officers exited the vehicle and returned fire striking the female. A total of 10 rounds were fired by the Officers.
Ms. Christian was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital where she later died of her injuries.
This incident remains under a criminal and internal investigation. Those entities involved are the APD Homicide Unit, APD Office of Professional Standards, and the Fulton County District Attorney’s Office.
The Officers involved in this incident are;
Jeffery Cook, Age: 53, black male, 18 years of service (as of May 7th)
Omar Thyme, Age: 33, black male, 10 months of service
The Officers are scheduled to give their statements to investigators early next week. This is in accordance with best practices related to the investigation of Officer involved shootings as established by the International Association Chief of Police.
