The city of Sandy Springs will purchase the Heards Ferry Fire Station—the last county-owned fire station in the city—by 2019 in a deal approved by Sandy Springs City Council Aug. 4.
The city already has purchased the three other local fire stations. The Heards Ferry station, at 6025 Raider Drive, was built by the county under certain financing conditions that did not previously allow a purchase, according to city attorney Wendell Willard.
The city has been subleasing the station, also known as the fire department’s Station No. 3, for $10,000 a month.
The new deal is a lease with an option to buy the station for $5,000 by 2019. The Fulton County attorney has approved the deal, but it still requires the county commission’s approval, according to Willard.
