Sandy Springs Education Force and Georgia Tech Research Institute have been named as a finalist in the Extracurricular Program category for the 2015 Georgia Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education Awards for their 2015 STEM Event and Outreach Program.
The Georgia STEM Education Awards recognize schools, programs and companies for outstanding efforts and achievements in supporting and promoting STEM Education in Georgia.
Finalists competed in 8 different categories in the statewide event.
“It was truly a challenge to choose from among the many applicants from around Georgia for these finalists,” said Tino Mantella, president of Technology Association of Georgia. “We applaud all of our applicants for their excellent work in STEM.”
Winners will be announced during a special awards gala on Aug. 28 at the Carlos Community Center in Atlanta.
“It is so gratifying to see STEM education gaining momentum throughout the state of Georgia,” said Michael Robertson, executive director of TAG Education Collaborative. “The programs selected as finalists are leading the way in this effort and sharing best practices that will prepare our students for the challenges ahead.”
Irene Schweiger, SSEF Executive Director, said the STEM Event is unique in that, while it is open to all students, “We particularly focus on inspiring economically disadvantaged pupils, who would otherwise not have the opportunity or be encouraged to pursue academics and careers in STEM fields.”
