The 25th Annual AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run will be held Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. in Piedmont Park. The event has grown to be the largest AIDS-related fundraising event in the Southeast, with over 10,000 registered participants raising over $1 million in previous years.
The event begins in the Meadow at Piedmont Park as the route travels through Midtown and returns to Piedmont Park. This year’s special goes will be Sheryl Lee Ralph, the actress, singer and activist best known for her role as Deidra “Dee” Mitchell in the TV comedy “Moesha.” She also originated the role of Deena Jones in the Broadway musical “Dreamgirls.”
AIDS Walk Atlanta & 5K Run raises funds for organizations in the metro Atlanta area that provide imperative programs for over 27,000 people infected or affected with HIV/AIDS.
The funds raised by AIDS Walk Atlanta and 5K Run help support AID Atlanta, Aniz, Jerusalem House, Living Room, Open Hand and Positive Impact Health Centers. Additionally, this year AIDS Walk Atlanta and 5K Run expanded its participating organizations to include Atlanta Harm Reduction Coalition and NAESM.
