Carlos Eduardo Morales Gallardo was arrested and charged with murder in the Nov. 28 death of a Brookhaven man.

After releasing a sketch of a “person of interest,” Brookhaven police arrested and charged with murder a man they say was related to the victim.

Carlos Eduardo Morales Gallardo, 20, is charged with murder in the Nov. 28 death of Nicolas Morales Garcia, who is related to Gallardo, police say. Detectives believe at this point that the shooting was the result of an ongoing dispute.

Garcia, 20, was found shot once at an apartment complex on Buford Highway. Attempts to revive Garcia were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene, Major Brandon Gurley, a spokesman for Brookhaven police, said in a press release.

Detectives were able to identify the suspect as Gallardo based on the many tips and leads that were received as a result of the sketch, Gurley said.

“The quick outcome of this investigation was made possible by the community and family’s involvement as well as the hard work of the detectives assigned to this case,” Police Chief Gary Yandura said. “Community partnerships like this will continue to build a safer Brookhaven and reduce crime in our area.”
