The holidays are here and two local police organizations are asking for volunteers to help needy children.

Saturday Dec. 5 at 7 a.m., Brookhaven police will host its second annual Shop with a Badge event to help children from the surrounding areas to purchase holiday gifts for themselves and their families.

During the in-store shopping event, the children are paired with police officers and other public safety professionals, who will help in picking out holiday gifts for the kids’ families. The participating children were referred to the program with the assistance of the Brookhaven Boys and Girls Club.

The Brookhaven Police Department, Chattahoochee River 911 Authority, a Target store team leader and Ziggy Asfaw from the Boy’s and Girl’s Club will make brief remarks during the in-store shopping event at Target, which is located at 2400 North Druid Hills Road in Atlanta.

Dunwoody’s Christmas for Kids toy drive has begun collecting new and unwrapped toys/gifts for kids aged newborn to 15. Drop off your donations at either the Dunwoody Police Department, which is located at 41 Perimeter Center East Suite 100 or at I Care Atlanta, located at 5879 New Peachtree Road in Doraville. The Christmas For Kids drive will be collecting until Dec. 25, but the organizations prefer donations be in by Dec. 17.

Lt. Fidel Espinoza is also seeking volunteers to go shopping for kids’ toys from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday Dec. 12. If you are available to meet up and go shopping at Walmart from 10 a.m. to noon, contact Fidel.espinoza@dunwoodyga.gov to volunteer.
