Councilman Howard Shook, who represents much of Buckhead, offered the amendment to eliminate that leg from both the text and the accompanying map.
“We know from previous analysis and discussion that a lot more thought needs to be put into this,” said Shook. “The day may come when the public will support sharing precious Peachtree Road capacity with streetcars, but today isn’t it.”
The amendment was approved unanimously.
The revived plan to expand the streetcar line to Buckhead had already been met with resistance from residents and officials.
PLEASE let us stop trying to force improvements upon Buckhead, a neighborhood that doesn’t want it and has a CID that can afford to build their own. We DESPERATELY need new bike lanes and sidewalks on the east side of Atlanta, and our neighbors are unanimous in our support for them. Don’t build it in Buckhead, build it on the east side!
