Controversial roundabouts planned the Riverside Drive/I-285 interchange will be built in the coming year—but maybe not as soon as city officials think.

The city recently circulated its last update from the state Department of Transportation, saying work would start in January and finish in November. But GDOT says only that the project will start sometime in 2016 and finish sometime in 2018. Baldwin Paving has been chosen as the contractor.

The $5.6 million project will replace ramps with roundabouts and also rehab the bridge over I-285. Reed Haggard, president of the Riverside Homeowners Association, said his group continues to doubt the roundabouts will be any sort of improvement.
