Yesterday morning, we innocently tweeted that the blockbuster Broadway musical “Hamilton” is coming to The Fox Theatre during the Fifth Third Bank Broadway in Atlanta 2017-18 season. The number of retweets and likes in just a matter of minutes knocked us for a loop. Y’all do love some musical theater.
But, yes, it’s true – “Hamilton” is coming to Atlanta, although exact dates haven’t been announced. This one is sure to sell out fast, so Broadway in Atlanta is encouraging theatergoers to secure their seats by subscribing to the recently-announced 2016-2017 season (which includes “Cabaret,” “Phantom of the Opera,” “The Bodyguard,” and “An American in Paris”) and renewing for the 2017-2018 season. You can find out more at this link.
“Hamilton: features music, lyrics, and book by Lin-Manuel Miranda. The show was inspired by the 2004 biography “Alexander Hamilton” by historian Ron Chernow. The musical follows the scrappy young immigrant who forever changed America, from bastard orphan to Washington’s right hand man, rebel to war hero, loving husband caught in the country’s first sex scandal to Treasury head who made an untrusting world believe in the American economy. George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Eliza Hamilton and lifelong Hamilton friend and foe, Aaron Burr, all make appearances in the tuner about America’s fiery past.
I’m so excited–Hamilton is a true once-in-a-generation phenomenon! I’m still going to try for NYC, however; not sure I can wait till 2017-18!
