Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. SW between Stafford Street SW and Morris Brown Dr. SW will be closed from 6 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, through 9 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, as a new bridge is constructed. The Atlanta BeltLine is building a 3-mile multi-use corridor along the Westside Trail, spanning from University Avenue at Adair Park to Lena Street at Washington Park. As part of this construction, the bridge over Martin Luther King, Jr. Dr. was removed in 2015. Check the beltline.org/blog for the latest travel advisories and updates concerning the road closure.
The Atlanta Opera has a received a $600,000, two-year grant from the Molly Blank Fund of The Arthur M. Blank Family Foundation to underwrite and expand the Opera’s Discoveries series of chamber operas. For the 2016-17 season, the Discoveries series will present “Maria de Buenos Aires,” which follows a young prostitute who falls in love with tango dancing in the heart of Buenos Aires, and Mozart’s “The Secret Gardener” will be performed at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. A portion of the grant will also be used to underwrite the company’s Studio Tour in 2017, which will feature an abridged version of “Cinderella” based on Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” that will be performed at schools and performing arts spaces throughout the Atlanta metro area.
