
Atlanta-based Fuqua Development LLC is planning a roughly 4-acre mixed-use project overlooking Piedmont Park and the Beltline’s Eastside Trail, according to a report at the Atlanta Business Chronicle. The development, which would be along Monroe Drive next to Park Tavern, would include apartments, townhomes, boutique hotel, supermarket and restaurants.
A chief of police and 67 certified police candidates were sworn in as members of the newly expanded Atlanta Public Schools Police Department Thursday. According to 11Alive, the inaugural swearing-in ceremony launches the school district’s fully-staffed police department and approach to protecting 50,000 students, nearly 5,000 employees and more than 100 learning sites and facilities. APS’ contract with the Atlanta Police Department ends on June 30.
The Kirkwood Neighbors’ Organization took a preemptive vote to oppose any attempts to redraw the neighborhood’s boundaries after a rumor surfaced that city wants to move Coan Park into Edgewood. According to a report at Decaturish, Earl Williamson, the environmental and beautification chair for the Kirkwood Neighbors’ Organization, said he had received a tip from someone in the city’s Planning Department that the plan was moving forward. District 5 City Councilmember Natalyn Archibong said there’s no such plan being considered.
