The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced today that it was satisfied with the City of Atlanta’s plan to fix operational and safety problems with the Atlanta Streetcar and would not shut the system down.
Mayor Kasim Reed released this statement:
“I extend my thanks to our partners at the Georgia Department of Transportation for recognizing the substantial and sustained progress made by the City of Atlanta, MARTA and Central Atlanta Progress in reporting our corrective action plans for operating the Atlanta Streetcar. The City and our partners have worked diligently to address all concerns with the system and to ensure the Atlanta Streetcar is safe and secure. I am also pleased that GDOT no longer anticipates issuing an order to cease operations. I look forward to building upon our positive relationship with GDOT, as we share in our strong commitment to offering safe, convenient and best-in-class transportation opportunities for Atlanta’s residents and visitors.”
