The Masquerade nightclub and concert venue held what was supposed to be its final show on Aug. 14 at the historic mill building in the Old Fourth Ward, but the music plays on after a legal challenge was filed against the new Masquerade space in West Midtown.
According to Daily Report, Brock Built homes is developing West Town, a residential subdivision of 75 single-family homes on a street bordering The Masquerade property at 1421 Fairmont Ave. Brock Built is seeking an injunction for “anticipatory nuisance” after three potential homeowners scuttled plans to buy in West Town when they learned The Masquerade would be their new neighbor.
The Masquerade, which has been located in the historic Excelsior Mill on North Avenue for 27 years, was slated to reopen in West Midtown on Aug. 20. A post on The Masquerade Facebook page says because of “construction delays” all shows scheduled for the “foreseeable future” will be held at the old North Avenue location.
The mill complex will eventually be transformed into a mixed-use development of restaurants, retail and apartments renamed North + Line.
