A Dunwoody polling station was shut down for approximately 30 minutes on Election Day after a small electrical fire broke out and forced the evacuation of workers and voters.
Because voting was halted, election officials are asking for a 30-minute extension in voting, according to Reporter Newspapers broadcast partner CBS 46.
The small fire broke out at All Saints Catholic Church on Mount Vernon Road this morning. DeKalb County Registration and Elections Director H. Maxine Daniels says a court order is being sought to extend hours in order to keep the station open for the required 12 hour time frame.
UPDATE from DeKalb County: The DeKalb County Board of Registration and Election has announced a 30-minute extension of voting at All Saints Catholic Church, located at 2443 Mt. Vernon Road.
Voting was interrupted for approximately 30 minutes from 11:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. as a result of a mandatory evacuation of the polling place due to a fire alarm.
This extension will take place in accordance with O.C.G.A. §21-2-403 so that all electors assigned to this polling location will have the opportunity to vote in the Nov. 8, 2016 election.
The polling station at All Saints Catholic Church will remain open until 7:30 p.m.
