Atlanta Police Chief George Turner will retire at the end of the year, according to a report from WSB Channel 2.

The news broke Wednesday morning and the mayor is expected to hold a news conference with Turner on Thursday.

Turner, a 35-year veteran of the police force, was appointed as chief of police in 2010 by Mayor Kasim Reed.
