7th Street Midtown AtlantaCrime is down in Midtown a year after a wave of violence hit the community, according to a report from our broadcast partner CBS46.  A rash of house and car break-ins, carjackings and robberies victimized dozens of people late last year. Zone 5 commander, Major Scott Kreher called the increase a huge spike, but said crime has been reduced 25 percent in Midtown compared to this time last year. He said putting officers on bikes, Segways and on foot have helped control the crime in the area.

Some former Atlanta Public Schools’ teachers say one of the fallouts from the district’s test-cheating scandal has been age discrimination. According to a report in the AJC, a federal lawsuit has been filed claiming that hundreds of older educators were forced out as APS as the administration moved to change the culture of the school system.

Ardent Commercial Realty and Fuqua Development plan to begin pre-construction work soon on their joint venture at Northside Drive & 17th Street near IKEA. According to Tomorrow’s News Today, The new development, close to but not part of Atlantic Station, will be anchored by an approximately 82,000 square foot Kroger grocery store.
