The Atlanta Police Foundation (APF) and the Atlanta Police Department (APD) held a ceremonial groundbreaking for the At-Promise Youth Center on Wednesday. This 17,000 square-foot facility will be transformed into a state-of-the-art space with specialized services for youth and residents focused on educational advancement, mental health, social/emotional learning and workforce development.
The center will used a three-pronged approach to addressing youth crime in Atlanta:
- Diversion – an alternative to arrest and probation
- Intervention – strategies to address behavior
- Prevention – to promote and foster personal growth and development
Located in historic English Avenue, the facility will specialize in programming for youth ages 12 to 17 who reside in Zone 1 and is expected to serve up to 150 youth the first year. The center is made possible through partnerships with Carter, General Electric, Georgia Power and the Arthur M. Blank Foundation.
