Atlanta’s Commissioner of Public Works Richard Mendoza has accepted a position with the City of Austin, Texas as Director of Public Works. Mendoza will leave his role on Jan. 11, 2017 after six years. Mendoza was responsible for leading the offices of Transportation, Solid Waste and Fleet Services. Deputy Chief Operating Officer William Johnson will serve as Mendoza’s permanent replacement.

ChooseATL, a movement dedicated to attracting and retaining top talent to metro Atlanta, today announced the top three finalists for its second annual Ultimate Job Interview Contest. After a public voting period, 135 entrants were narrowed down to 10 semifinalists. The three final contestants were then selected by a panel of top Atlanta executives after a virtual job interview. This year’s finalists are: Gayla R. Robbins, a science educator and alumna of Spelman College;  Nicole C. Smith, a master’s student at the University of South Carolina; and AJ Wilson, a sophomore at Wesleyan University. The three finalists will travel to Atlanta in January to experience the city, meet with influential city leaders and executives to discuss job opportunities, and participate in a Shark Tank-style interview competition.

The Atlanta Jewish Film Festival has unveiled the first wave of films to be included in the 2017 lineup from Jan. 24 through Feb. 15, which includes the documentary “Freedom To Marry,” Russian hit “Paradise,” the award-winning “Harmonia” from Israel, and many more. The full lineup and official schedule will be announced on Jan. 6 and tickets will go on sale via AJFF.org, beginning Jan. 18.
