Sandy Springs Mayor Rusty Paul is asking Kennesaw State University to establish a business master’s degree program in Sandy Springs, according to the city.

City spokesperson Dan Coffer said that Paul is “working on that KSU proposal for the city” and that he could not comment further.

KSU spokesperson Tammy DeMel declined comment on the proposal. “At this time, we are unable to provide any information,” she said.

Lever Stewart, the past president of the Sandy Springs Perimeter Chamber of Commerce, said he is aware of the MBA proposal, but not directly involved in it. He noted that many cities smaller than Sandy Springs have such university programs.

KSU is a state university based in Kennesaw and operates a Marietta campus. Its departments include a business college.

  1. Mayor Rusty Paul will forever be in my good graces if he can pull this off. I have said it before and I’ll say it again. Sandy Springs NEEDS to recruit premier Metro Atlanta Universities to establish satellite campuses IN Sandy Springs. We have seen numerous campuses bypass Sandy Springs for our northern neighbors in Alpharetta, most recently Gwinnett Technical College built a new campus near Avalon.

With the removal of their signs, it seems the University of Phoenix has left their Northridge location.

Growing up in Dekalb County I was able to do joint-enrollment while I was in high school. This allowed me to attend Georgia State(Georgia Perimeter at the time) while still in high school. This was instrumental to my successful transition to the University of Georgia as a freshman. I was able to complete my high school education and start college without having to travel outside of the city limits. Unfortunately, opportunities like those are few, far and between within Sandy Springs. The City’s public education is constantly challenge with a lot of parents ultimately deciding to enroll their children into private school.

So, with that being said, I wholeheartedly support the possibility of Kennesaw or any other state University establishing a campus WITHIN Sandy Springs.
