More than 1,000 flights have been cancelled and more are expected at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport after Sunday’s total power failure. While electricity was restored around midnight, one of the world’s busiest airports continues to return to normalcy after a fire in an underground electrical tunnel knocked out two substations.
According to a report in the AJC, the airport was at 90 percent normal functioning this morning. Security lines were open and the Plane Train was operational. However, the individual airlines were struggling to rebook thousands of passengers stranded overnight in Atlanta.
Hotels filled up quickly, so Mayor Kasim Reed had the Georgia International Convention Center near the airport opened last night to accept travelers who couldn’t find rooms.
