
The Allen Morris Company has closed on a 1.7 acre parcel of land in Atlanta’s West Midtown, which will become the Star Metals Offices development. Located at 1041 Howell Mill Road, the 14-story, 222,000 square foot class ‘A’ tower with office space and ground floor retail, which will serve as the commercial component of the overall Star Metals Atlanta development, additionally comprised of 409 luxury multi-family units across the street. The company expects to begin demolition of the site later this year, with an anticipated completion of the office tower in the spring of 2020.
The North Avenue Smart Corridor has earned a National Recognition Award in the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) 2018 Engineering Excellence Awards (EEA) competition. This is the fourth major award for the North Avenue Smart Corridor, which is funded by the Renew Atlanta Infrastructure Bond. The North Avenue Smart Corridor incorporates multiple Smart City technology components designed to facilitate and promote safety for pedestrian and bicycle traffic; use the latest adaptive traffic signals for a safer, more efficient flow of bus and vehicular traffic in real-time conditions; and prioritize fire engines and ambulances traveling along the corridor on emergency response calls. Since the launch of the North Avenue Smart Corridor, there has been a 25 percent reduction in the accident rate along the route, according to city officials.

A collection of personal correspondence and memorabilia of novelist Harper Lee, author of “To Kill a Mockingbird,” has been acquired by Emory University’s Stuart A. Rose Manuscript, Archives and Rare Book Library. The letters, written between 1956 and 1961, are from Harper Lee to New York architect and close personal friend Harold Caufield and his circle of friends, which included Michael and Joy Brown, benefactors who supported Lee during the early days of her writing career.
