AIA Georgia, a chapter of the American Institute of Architects, has awarded design firm Cooper Carry its 2018 AIA Georgia Firm of the Year Award. A committee of industry leaders and influencers selected Cooper Carry after reviewing the firm’s achievements and contributions to the profession and community. AIA Georgia also named Georgia Institute of Technology’s West Village Dining Commons as the recipient of a 2018 Honor Award. Designed by Cooper Carry in association with Lake|Flato and Koons Environmental Design, the cutting-edge 50,000-square-foot hybrid facility has received national acclaim for its thoughtfully-designed, highly flexible meeting and dining hall that has drawn students and the surrounding community to the previously underutilized west portion of campus.
The City of Atlanta Urban Design Commission has named luxury residential apartment building AMLI 3464 the recipient of its prestigious Award of Excellence. The award honors projects and organizations that significantly contribute toward the enhancement of the City of Atlanta’s built environment through quality and sustainable design. The 24-unit apartment high-rise in Buckhead was designed by Cooper Cary. Lincoln Property Company Southeast received an Award of Excellence from the UDC for 1372 Peachtree, which sat vacant for over a decade, then was dramatically transformed last year into a modern office building in Midtown.
Engel & Völkers Atlanta and Above Atlanta Realtors have united to form a luxury real estate company focused on condos, townhomes and single-family homes. The two firms will open a co-branded flagship location between Midtown and Buckhead at 25th Street and Peachtree Street this summer. The shop will include Atlanta’s first virtual reality screening room, allowing buyers to envision and experience their new home without leaving the office.

E Dunn Construction has begun work on AMLI Oak Valley, a multifamily community featuring a 24-story tower and a five-story mid-rise, which together will deliver 391 luxury apartments near Lenox Square in Buckhead. The 370,000-square-foot concrete tower will provide 307 apartments; the 95,000-square-foot wood, mid-rise building will have 84 apartments. The community will offer one-, two- and three-bedroom apartment homes with a variety of interior features including floor-to-ceiling windows and 10-foot ceilings, as well as outdoor and studio fitness facilities, clubrooms and terrace, pool and outdoor deck among the amenities. The project will be completed in 2019.

Nearly 500 pet lovers attended the annual Bow Wow Brunch at Flourish in Buckhead recently, raising $600,000 for the Atlanta Humane Society. Lisa and Paul Brown and Cindy and Bill Voyles co-chaired the event. Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty CEO and Co-Founder Jenny Pruitt received the organization’s top honor as she was named the Anne Cox Chambers Humane Heroine.

Morningside resident and realtor, Ken Covers, with Engel & Volkers Intown Atlanta, recently competed in the ballroom dance competition Dancing Stars of Atlanta 2018, raising $105,000 for the Alzheimers Association, Georgia Chapter. Covers was dancing for his mother, who has Alzheimer’s and recently moved into an assisted living facility. The gala raised nearly $1 million for the Alzheimer’s Association.
