The 43rd annual Atlanta Film Festival returns April 4 – 14 with more than 175 film screenings, educational programs and special events.
Selected from a record-breaking 8,400-plus submissions, the 2019 festival will present 31 feature length films, 98 short films and 36 creative media presentations.
“In our 43 years, we have made enormous strides in providing not only top-notch film programming, but also hosting special presentations and educational events that enrich Atlanta’s film and arts community,” said Christopher Escobar, Executive Director of the ATLFF. “Year after year, we are even more thrilled to showcase our remarkable slate of films and welcome exceptional filmmakers into Atlanta’s booming film industry, which has no doubt grown each year in tandem with the festival.”
Festival favorites, including SOUND+VISION, Food on Film and the IMAGE Film Awards Gala, returning after a 10-year hiatus, will also round out this year’s programming. The five-day Creative Conference will also delight attendees with panels, workshops, Q&As and more educational offerings.
Festivalgoers will enjoy screenings and events at returning official venues including the Plaza Theatre, Dad’s Garage and the Hilan Theatre, plus the addition of 7 Stages Blackbox Theater as a new venue this year.
This year’s opening night event on April 5 at Plaza Theatre will be a screening of “The Farewell” about a dysfunctional family that learns its matriarch has terminal cancer. The closing night event on April 13 at the Plaza will be a screening of “Them That Follow” starring recent Oscar-winner Olivia Colman about Pentecostal snake-handlers.
