DeKalb County Sheriff Melody Maddox will speak at a Women’s History Month event put on by the Brookhaven Chamber of Commerce on March 17.

Maddox, the first woman to be elected to the Sheriff’s Office, will be the guest speaker at the event at the restaurant Petite Violette at 2948 Clairmont Road.

Maddox was appointed as sheriff in November 2019, but was elected for the first time in November 2020.

This is the first Chamber luncheon done one in conjunction with Women’s History Month, according to Operations Manager Barbara Barber.

“We wanted a prominent female that could enlighten us on the many ‘firsts’ she has achieved with DeKalb County,” Barber said in an email.

The Sheriff’s office did not respond to a request for comments on what Maddox would be discussing in her speech in time for publication

Those interested in attending the event must register and pay online. Tickets are $45 for Chamber members and $55 for non-members. Doors open at 11:30 a.m., and the event will start at noon. No late entry will be accepted.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines will be enforced during the event. Temperature checks will take place, and masks must be worn before and after eating, according to the Chamber website.

Update: This story has been updated to reflect the lack of virtual option for this event.
