Construction and detours are expected to begin the week of Feb. 5 when preliminary work begins on the bridge at North Druid Hills Road and North Fork Peachtree Creek.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) said drivers can expect nightly construction lane closures until a 90-day detour is implemented.

During the three-month period, motorists will utilize the provided five-mile detour route. Traffic will be rerouted from North Druid Hills Road to I-85’s Clairmont Road exit and across to Buford Highway.

It’s all part of the area’s interchange improvement plan to accommodate residential and commercial growth, particularly Arthur M. Blank Hospital at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta.

A full road closure between Buford Highway and West Druid Hills Drive is anticipated in March to reconstruct the 1960s-built bridge.

The new bridge structure will be wider and safer for increasing traffic levels in the area, as well as benefit pedestrians with larger sidewalks and ADA compliant ramps at crosswalks, according to GDOT.

GDOT has not released closure and detour dates.
