The Powers Ferry Transportation Study seeks ways to improve pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and vehicular travel. (Sandy Springs)

Six months after kicking off its Powers Ferry Transportation Study, Sandy Springs will invite the community to provide input on the draft recommendations.

A public open house will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Studio Theatre in Sandy Springs City Hall at 1 Galambos Way. A brief presentation at 6:15 p.m. will be followed by the open house.

An introduction to the Powers Ferry study was made through a public input meeting on Aug. 14, 2023 attended by approximately 70 residents. Some residents said proposed bus transit might make sense if there were routes to The Battery, City Springs, and other places MARTA doesn’t go.

Sandy Springs Councilmember Andy Bauman said during the August meeting that one of his priorities has been walking and bike connectivity to get people safely from where they live or work down to the river.

The city and its consultants have been conducting a transportation evaluation of the Powers Ferry area to identify improvements that can be made to support pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and vehicular travel.

The study builds upon the improvements identified in the Next Ten Comprehensive Plan and Powers Ferry Small Area Plan. Those plans established a vision for the area as a multi-modal, connected, neighborhood-scale district with improved retail, commercial uses, and natural resource amenities.
