Sandy Springs Police arrested two men who were charged with arson after five vehicles were damaged by fire early Sunday morning.

Officers were dealing with another incident at 1150 Hammond Drive at approximately 5:24 a.m. on March 3 when they heard an explosion, according to an SSPD social media post.

An eyewitness called 911 and said that two men – dressed in black and wearing surgical masks and gloves – poured gasoline over a car in the parking deck of 1160 Hammond Drive. One suspect had a red gas can and the other had a backpack.

The officers nearby responded to the area and located both suspects near the scene. They were placed under arrest without further incident, according to the post.

Five cars were damaged because of the fire.

SSPD reported that the suspects were interviewed and confessed to committing the crime. The motive given was based on revenge on an ex-girlfriend.

De’Quavius Holmes and Jayson Similton were each charged with five counts of arson in the first degree.
