Two people protesting the construction of Atlanta’s public safety training center were arrested on Wednesday morning after locking themselves to equipment at a Midtown construction site.
According to the Atlanta Police report, officers responded to 660 11th Street just after 4:30 a.m. this morning. Upon arrival, officers found Parker Demos, 23, and Frederick Hetzel, 22, had locked themselves to the top of a crane at a Brasfield & Gorrie construction site.
The protesters had attached themselves to the crane using a makeshift wire and PVC piping lock known as a “Sleeping Dragon.” Brasfield & Gorrie is one of the companies constructing the training center, which opponents have dubbed “Cop City.”
Demos and Hetzel were charged with criminal trespass, false imprisonment, obstruction, and reckless conduct. Both were transported to the Fulton County Jail for processing.
This is the third protest against Brasfield & Gorrie where “Stop Cop City” protesters have attached themselves to equipment at Midtown construction sites.
